These roof window loft conversion are sometimes referred to as the Velux window. Because The Velux window follows the line of the roof these loft conversions are subject to less planning regulation. The natural light from the Velux window makes your loft space more livable with this type of conversion.
Mansard Loft Conversions are the most complex type but you can also get fantastic results from this type of conversion adding the most space to your home. This features a flat roof along with a back wall sloping inwards at an angle of 72 degrees. Windows are often built in small dormers.
Hip to Gable loft conversions are similar to dormer conversions (bottom). However they include converting the ends that slope at an angle towards to middle into ends that are vertical (See dark area on illustration). This allows full height headroom across the whole width of the property.
This extension of the ridge line of the roof to the full width of the property is done by converting the hip end of a roof to a gable, hence the name.
The most common type of loft conversion is in the style of a dormer loft conversion. The reasons why dormer loft conversion are so popular is that they provide vertical walls & horizontal ceilings where the loft space is achieved where the existing roof is extended. Importantly many cases these do not require planning permission.
Of course there are all sorts of different reasons that people want to convert their lofts. Lawrence Building will be happy to help you find out if your loft is viable to covert to achieve the results you want.
